Words of Recovery: 3 poems about healing from addiction
Encouragement and Empowerment for Recovery through the Art of Poetry
Introduction
This week’s post is a little different. The way I started writing was actually through poetry, in elementary school. After doing some research, I learned that people were looking for addiction recovery poems but there aren’t many online. I had already been writing some, but didn’t save the file when restarting my laptop. So these are three fresh (at the time of publishing this post) poems about the “highs” and lows of addiction recovery, written by someone who has become free from many addictions while still having a few that the Most High is healing. I appreciate those who visited my site, as well as those who paved the way before me to be as healed as I am today. Hope you enjoy the poems.
1. Keep going
From torment
Forward, to mentioned
Torn image, worst sentence;
More blessings, Soul Healing
Rectification
is a moment away
Change
in an instant
180
Son graced me
All praise
to the Highest Power who saved me
We won’t fade away anyway
It’s all a Love story anyway
Who wants to say
they gave it all away
for drugs anyway?
So trudge anyway
2. Haiku about exercise healing addiction
Breathe in, then breathe out
A moment of clarity
Just move your body
3. From/to
From pain to purpose
From selfish to servin
was hurtin from serpents
now healing and swervin
your light is still workin
it cannot be extinguished
as long as you keep up
with your meaning for being
it’s all for a reason
things can fall into place
just trust in the presence
of the force that can save
In Jesus name we’ve prayed
Conclusion
May these poems unlock healing in the still sick and suffering, and maybe even remind those who have broken free about what a blessing it is to recover. Thank you for reading until the end. May the Lord watch over you and yours.
